International Seminar Proceeding <p>International Seminar</p> IAHN-TP Palangka Raya en-US International Seminar Proceeding RELIGIOUS TEXT OF ‘PANATURAN’ <p>The ethnic of Dayak Ngaju is one of the Dayaks in Central Kalimantan. This ethnic group has a native belief named Kaharingan, which is later on called as a religion. Kaharingan religion was previously called Ngaju beliefs, Hiden religion and even Kafir or unbelievers. In its process, in 1972, this belief is associated with Hinduism or Hindu Kaharingan. This religion has a holy book, Panaturan, in which most of the texts are used by most of the Dayak Ngaju community for religion purposes. To have a comprehensive picture of this religious text, this article used semantic structures to see the field and participants in the text. The findings show that Panaturan is structured within narrative, drama, and poetry. While, the participants on Panaturan are structured hierarchicaly from high – middle – low and textually called as upper realm/ sky, lower realm/ space, and earth.</p> Maria Arina Luardini Putu Sutama, Natalina Asi Copyright (c) 2019 International Seminar Proceeding 2019-10-16 2019-10-16 1 1 8 10.33363/internasional-seminar.v0i1.18 Growing Up in Hinduism: The Unexpected Transformation of Hinduism in Tolerance and Justice <p>This article is the result of a study of several references that explain the transformation of Hinduism from various perspectives. This paper tries to show the meaning of Hindu tolerance that does not shift as true intrinsic values of the human self. In a pluralistic and heterogeneous society, Hinduism transforms the values of tolerance in a universal perspective of life. Hinduism offers extraordinary diversity through its beliefs, culture, arts, and customs. Claiming more than 1.08 billion adherents or 15% of the world's population. Its diversity offers a freedom that allows individuals to follow many different paths in their quest for God. Hinduism is a religious and cultural phenomenon that breeds tolerance and contains important teachings about values for the modern world. These include beliefs about the sacred earth, belief in the relationship with each other between all life, belief in the law of karma, and other commitments contained in the simplicity of life and spiritual benefits greater than material wealth. Of course, Hinduism still faces many challenges caused by the values of globalism, materialism, consumerism, and individualism. Although much affected by the adverse effects of globalism, Hinduism continues to survive with its theology. The important meaning of Hinduism is basically the most diverse philosophical religion and contains almost every philosophical idea that emphasizes the concepts of self, the world, and God itself. Religious-ethics should be carried out in real-life every day given the dynamics and social changes that are very fast as part of the development of science and technology. Besides bringing a positive impact on improving the level of human life in the world, the development of science and technology cannot be denied giving negative sentiment to the degradation of human ethics and morality so as to distance people from their human nature, especially in terms of communication. In this era, communication is very vital because communication can lead to peace and also destruction. Hindu communication in a number of texts is very concerned about ethics, namely the rules of communication. The Hindu scriptures, the Vedas, mandate a great deal about ethics which must be upheld especially in relation to the practice of communication. The communication ethics aims to establish a common meaning between the communicant as the messenger, and the communicator as the recipient of the message. The similarity of meaning that is built up can avoid communication gaps. Radicalism is contrary to religious values. This situation is disturbing for the general public and millennial generation. The millennial generation is seen as a potential unifier of the nation but also very vulnerable to introduced and as a group to spread radicalism. Their access to digital information is very high. Unfortunately, not all information they received is entirely correct; they often exposed by content that full of intolerance, and hatred that is contrary to the values of religion and national civilization. Their vulnerability to be disclosed by radicalism ideology was caused due to lack of understanding in the religious values that teach peace (santih), the importance of brotherhood (Vasudaiva Kutumbhakam, Tat Twam Asi), as well as other virtue values. Digital technology that used wisely can raise social, cultural, and religious vulnerabilities. This paper is a synthesis of thought with a library research approach to explore opinions and findings to formulate new ideas as a response to the challenges and opportunities of millennial Hindu generations in the era of digital technology. This study aims to investigate the general description of Hinduism conversion that occurred in southeast Sulawesi and how it impacts on young Hindu generation. The method that used in this study was mixed methods, but it dominates by quantitative analysis methods, while the qualitative forgive the description. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling, while the purposes of data collection used in this study were: observation, interviews, document recording, and predictive surveys. The techniques of data analysis used in this study were interpretation data, reduction, presentation, conclusions, and verification. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how young Hindus can master these three things, utilize data accurately and can talk, discuss and disseminate information based on available data so that they are not underestimated by other religions. Similarly, the use of technology in an appropriate manner by their needs, so they can compete in the world of work. By using the four pillars of education concepts, namely, 1) learning to know, (2) learning to do, (3) learning to be, and (4) learning to live together, then Hindu resources will be able to compete in healthily and harmoniously way side by side with other nations, who have different customs and religions. This thought is important to spread because it needs to be realized by young Hindus to be able to create world peace. Thus a true peace begins with individuals, families, and communities. Term of Vedic mathematics based on old Hindu scripture namely Atharvaveda. In this research, sutra (formulae) that applied is the Nikhilam sutra part from 16 sutras on Vedic mathematics. Nikhil sutra is formulae to solve problems about multiplication and division. Research subject on this research is a student of the PGSD Study Program from STAHDS Central Sulawesi. The method that used in this research is Open-Ended who developed by Takahashi, which aims to know how are applying Vedic mathematics, how far the result of student achievement and also what are student responses after got new formulae came from Vedic mathematics. The result of this research is mean of student achievement increase from 68 to 80. Social and emotional intelligence plays an important role in determining one's success (Daniel Goleman in Iriyanto, 2006). This intelligence can encourage the development of children to start and have social relationships with others and become the basis for the development of their academic ability. This research was focused on elementary school students especially in big classes (class IV-VI). The phenomenon is to maintain the sanctity of the temple associated with the development of tourism in Senggigi beach. There are three focuses on the research, namely the challenges faced by Hindus in preserving the existence of the Segara Temple during tourism development, the impact of tourism development on the sanctity of the Segara Temple, the actions of Hindus in conserving the sanctity of Segara Temple. This study was designed in the form of a qualitative descriptive study to describe the actions taken to always be able to maintain the sanctity of the temple during the rapid development of tourism. Based on this research, it was found that the challenge of Hindus in preserving the existence of the Segara Temple was the tendency for a decline in the sanctity of the temple due to the tourists visiting the temple area whose condition of the temple and tourism development distance to the Segara Temple began to be violated. The impact of tourism development on the sanctity of the Segara Temple in a positive dimension helps to finance temple activities, both the preservation of temples and the implementation of Hindu ceremonies. The doctrine of Sad Paramita as the basis of the Hindu religion that has a religious attitude to increase the nobility, behavior, and personality of man. In addition, Sad Paramita can build a balanced harmony of life. When the doctrine of Sad Paramita are realized in daily life, harmony, peace, welfare, and success will be accomplished. Based on the fact that steadreality to God begins with the confidence of the self, by believing in the presence of God and his doctrine. People who are said to have a right steadiness attitude will always obey, diligent and confident in the activity of something related to God or the power that is beyond the limits of human power. In this case, the problem of Taqwa (devoutly) will never be separated from the scope of religion, because religion is a path or belief that a person embraced in disobedience to his lord. If religion has become an integral part of the person of every Hindu, then religion will be visible in all human behavior both individually and jointly. Thus through the application of the doctrine of Sad Paramita is expected to be able to instill good character and possess noble nobility. Thus, the realization of the teaching, indirectly, can produce superior students, able to compete in the world of work or industry, possess skills and have high competitiveness, creative and innovative, and always uphold honesty.</p> Ni Nyoman Perni Copyright (c) 2019 International Seminar Proceeding 2019-10-16 2019-10-16 1 84 98 10.33363/internasional-seminar.v0i1.28 Hindu Kaharingan across Time: Anthropological Portrayals of a Religion in Transition Keynote Address <p>The beliefs and religious practices of Kalimantan’s indigenous peoples have been documented by social scientists and others for well over a century.&nbsp; Hindu Kaharingan, however, is unique in the robust level of scientific attention that it has attracted. Anthropologists have had the privilege of investigating and analyzing part of Hindu Kaharingan’s unfolding story. The vitality of Hindu Kaharingan and its role in local identity continues to generate interest among Indonesian and foreign researchers alike. This presentation examines changes in how Kaharingan has been portrayed by anthropologists over time. It argues that the recognition of Hindu Kaharingan was a watershed moment in indigenous religious activism.&nbsp; Since that time, Hindu Kaharingan has often been cited as an example of a native religion that has survived and thrived in the face of social transformation. Yet, interest in Hindu Kaharingan is not limited to academicians only. In 1996, with the encouragement of local cultural activists, the National Geographic Society produced a television film about Kaharingan. While the film led to broader appreciation across the globe of Dayak culture, its production also raised complex issues regarding how controversial aspects of Ngaju death rituals should be portrayed.
